The element of fun is one of the most important subcomponents to a player’s mental and emotional state, and one that has great influence in a player’s game. If a player is enjoying the training and the thrill of competition, he is more likely to have a positive attitude on court and be successful. If he does not have fun throughout the whole process of development and becoming a better player, naturally he will begin to dislike tennis and possibly even stop playing the game.
Therefore, it is important that parents and coaches help create an enjoyable and pleasurable atmosphere in all aspects and levels of learning, training and playing, and also be able to recognize when the element of fun is no longer present in a player’s game.
Fun does not necessarily mean that a player should be laughing and joking around on the court and not being serious. Fun means enjoying the competition and enjoying being in the moment of battle. If that element is present in a player’s attitude, it is easier to get the goals that have been set accomplished. The only way to have a long-term enjoyment of the game is to have fun when you are on the court. |
